Bassendean Optical commenced as an independent practice in 1991.
Whilst primarily catering for the visual needs of the local community, we have grown to specialise in children's behavioural/developmental vision and contact lenses. We work together with all other health professionals including general practitioners, ophthalmologists, psychologists, occupational therapists, teachers, and community nurses to obtain the best outcome for our patients.
Our care includes the latest technology including Optos wide angle retinal imaging, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Topography for advanced contact lenses and Perimetry. In-house Vision Therapy, Visual -Neuro Rehabilitation and Intuitive Colorimetry assessment now at the one location.
Michael Doyle
Principal Owner/Optometrist
Michael commenced as the principal owner/optometrist at Bassendean Optical in 1998.
He graduated from the Queensland University of Technology (previously QIT) in 1981 and later completed postgraduate studies in Ocular Therapeutics and a Fellowship with the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists.
Prior to Bassendean, his experience included several years working in Brisbane, Victoria and the Northern Territory, with much involvement in travel to remote communities. During this time he held positions of Optometrists Association president for WA, president of the Cornea & Contact lens Society WA, as well as
president of 2 Apex clubs when in the Northern Territory.
Married to Trish (practice business manager), with 3 children (and now several grandchildren), he is still actively involved in various sports and continued education.
Beila Schutz
Optometrist

Beila graduated from the School of Optometry in Johannesburg in 1984. From 1994 to 1996 she completed Certificates of Advanced Study from the New England College of Optometry, Boston, in Ocular Disease, Pharmaceutical Application and Neural Basis in Optometry. In 2014, Beila completed her post graduate in ocular therapies and most recently, in 2023, attained her Certificate in Advanced Contact Lenses.
Beila has a special interest in children's vision, focusing on their optical needs and improving their overall vision abilities with the use of Vision Therapy.

Beila is an active member of the Optometrist's Association of Australia as well as the Australian College of Behavioural Optometrists (ACBO). She is also a member of the Cornea and Contact Lens Society of Australia.
Dominique Côté-Assaf

Originally from Montreal, Canada, Dominique grew-up shadowing her father in his optical dispensing practice. Assisting her father in the office and with patients, Dominique developed her interest in providing quality eyecare services to patients early on.
Having grown-up in a multicultural environment, Dominique is fluent in English, French and Spanish. She can also manage to understand some Arabic, Italian and Portuguese! Dominique decided to follow her father's footsteps and completed her double-degree in Optical Dispensing and Sciences at Edouard-Montpetit College. She then completed two years of Bachelor of Science, majoring in Exercise Science at Concordia University, which led to her reaffirming her passion for sports and outdoor activities. Shortly thereafter, Dominique took a big leap of faith and moved to Geelong on her own to complete her Bachelor of Vision Science and Master of Optometry at Deakin University. Soon after moving across to Perth for clinical placements, she developed a special interest in paediatric optometry, and myopia control.
Dominique also completed a post-graduate Advanced Certificate in Children's Vision through the Australian College of Optometry. She is also therapeutically endorsed, and a member of Optometry Australia, the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists, and the Cornea and Contact Lens Society of Australia.
In her spare time, you will find Dominique at the beach snorkeling, free-diving or scuba-diving in the ocean!
