Eye Health

With eyesight thought to be the most important of the 5 senses, it is absolutely essential we take good care of our eyes.

Some of the more common conditions we assess and monitor include:

Glaucoma

Glaucoma, a condition which involves damage to the optic nerve situated at the back of the eye, is one of the leading causes of blindness in the world. One of the reasons glaucoma is so dangerous is that the symptoms, often referred to as ‘tunnel vision’, are often not noticed until the condition has progressed to an advanced stage, of which the damage is irreversible.

For more information regarding glaucoma, visit the Glaucoma Australia website.

Cataracts

Cataract is a term to describe any opacities of the lens; a normally clear, crystalline structure situated within the eye. These opacities can affect individuals to different degrees, ranging from mild glare sensitivity to significant visual loss. Cataracts can affect all ages, but are particularly prevalent with increasing age, especially over 65 years old.

Macular Degeneration

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD), another common cause of low vision and legal blindness in western societies, is a significant condition that affects the macula, an area of the retina responsible for central, fine detailed vision.
